This memoir starts out like many others; British or Scottish (in this case) citizen moves to Spainto start a new life in less expensive, better weather country.First, the writing is very good. The author doesn't embellish or over emotionalize the experienceas many first time memoir writers tend to do. Clearly, this is a professional writer.What I enjoyed is the interesting twist of trying to transform the rural village byinviting others to live with him in his home.I hope there is a sequel. Read this book over the weekend and really enjoyed it. The only downside was the nephew of the barkeepers, thought it flattened what was otherwise a heartening read and felt this portion of the book could have been edited out or at least limited as it bored me as it did all the characters . Definitely looking forward to Jack’s next book which will hopefully be written in a speedy manner over the winter months now that he mastered the technique.
